I've got a lifebuoy for you.

Admit it. You are constantly distracted, aren't you? But do you have to be?

In the '80s, we were spellbound by the abundance in cereal aisles and Sunday Morning cartoons. Today? We've got that distraction right in our pocket, yanking our attention in all directions.

Like it or not, amid the clamour, the glow of the smartphone and the avalanche of information, our nervous system is struggling to keep pace. What's the solution?

Mindfulness!

But how?

Picture this. I'd just wrapped up a yin yoga session, when I hopped into an UBER, soaked in relaxation. No sooner had the journey begun than I sensed danger. The vehicle jolted erratically, prompting me to take a look at the driver.

You can only concentrate on ONE thing at a time, but my driver? His attention was split between two phones: one with GPS, another with an ongoing WhatsApp chat. Talk about multitasking gone wrong!

As we oscillated between scrolling images and unpredictable stops, I felt queasy. My inner alarms were blaring - I felt unsafe and could see the striking disconnect between the driver, his task and his body.

The lesson? We have the power to choose where we devote our attention. Choose wisely, and you can transform your quality of life.
